Director Srijit Mukherji Remembers ‘Rajkahini’ Days, Shares Old Facebook Picture on Twitter
Director Srijit Mukherji shared a throwback photograph on Twitter. The picture was taken when he was making film Rajkahini. The film features 11 major female characters led by Rituparna Sengupta and also stars Jaya Ahsan, Jisshu Sengupta, Abir Chatterjee, Saswata Chatterjee, Kaushik Sen in other pivotal roles.

“Facebook memories throw up those days of editing Rajkahini from a hospital bed and narrating Zulfiqar in crutches!” he wrote. In the picture, Mukherji is seen standing with a plaster on his leg.

The Rajkahini is a story of Bengal partition. The film is a story of politics, where head of the brothel Begumjaan takes extreme steps. She seems unfair, brutal, fearsome, and merciless. Her brothel falls right on the border that is to be created to divide Bengal- one half will remain in India and the other half will be called East Pakistan. Officials representing their respective governments deliver the sermon to Begum a month in advance so that she and the other inhabitants can move out. There was Hindi remake also of his film ‘Begumjaan’ in which Vidya Balan was featured.

Meanwhile, Srijit Mukherji has recently completed the shooting of ‘Gumnaami’.  It is to be noted here that the film has been in controversy ever since Mukherji had announced to make this film. Veteran Bengali hero Prosenjit Chatterjee will be playing the lead role.

The film is based on Gumnaami baba who was assumed to be the legendary freedom fighter Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose. Baba led the life as Hindu saint in Faizabad in Uttar Pradesh in the 1970s or 80s. Netaji Bose died in a plane crash in 1945 which has been doubted by many.

However, Bose's family members had claimed that terming Gumnami Baba as Netaji in disguise without any evidence is a ''criminal offence''.
The film is slated to hit the screen during the puja.
